Is David right? Is Tally amazing? Do you think she should be feeling guilty? Why or why not?
Kayli Says: Yes, of course!!! Even IF, which Tally did, become an infiltraitor for the Specials, she still had the guts to fight back. Against the Specials. That's prety amazing, don't you think? She should be feeling a little gulity, though, because she was a spy, and she betrayed everyone.

Blog Post #38: " Run "
Who is the voice in the dark? Do you think it will be a friend or enemy to Tally? What do you think Tally will do now?
Kayli Says: David. D-a-v-i-d. No doubt about it, nope not one bit. He's one who's the kind of person to randomly pop up out of nowhere like that. Obviously, he's a friend, and who knows, they could end up kissing OR Tally could tell him the truth finally.

Blog Post #37: " In Case of Damage "
Explain what self preservation means to you. Is it the most important thing? Would you lie because of it?
Kayli Says: Self preservation is just as it says. It means to preserve yourself, plain and simple. To me it also means to be above others. For example, say if everyone loves Twilight, which I hate and think is very overrated, don't like it just because everyone else does, because you as a person are above it, all of it. It may not be the most important thing, but it's floating around there in the top 10. Because of it, I wouldn't lie, but since I do anyway, I guess that doesn't matter anyway.

Blog Post #36: " The Rabbit Pen "
Tally had changed her mind about the Smoke and the operation, but what will she do about all that now? Whose side is she on?
Kayli Says: Tally...Tally...Tally. IDK. She's on one side, then just randomly jumps the fence to the other side whenever she feels like it. I think now, though, that she's sided with the Smoke, but then again, the whole point of this invasion was to bring back the Smokies and she did this so that she wouldn't have to be an Ugly forever, which is totally selfish, not selfless. But then again, she did try to destroy the pendant only so that she could stay in the Smoke and maybe not have to turn Pretty. So maybe this was all a mistake, you know, the invasion and all. Let's hope it is too. So this is like a win-win, lose-lose situation wev'e got on our hands here. Good luck deciding people, because I, I'm sooooooooooooooo NOT!!!!! K-outie!!!

Is this the climax of the book? Explain why or why not.
Kayli Says: Uhh, Ya-duhh!!! Of course it is!!! S-C(Special Circumstances) is there, and this is the biggest piece to the puzzle of em' all!!! I don't know about you, but if you don't think that this is the climax of the book,well......You're an idiotic Moron.....No offense.....I think.....

Blog Post #34: " Burning Bridges "
Read the following quote David says to Tally.
"What you do, the way you think, makes you beautiful."
Name one person in your personal life, and one in your academic life...what makes this person beautiful?
Kayli Says:
Personal Life: I've got a few people to name. My mom, dad, Grandparents, but I think i'm gonna have to go with my Aunt Norene. She's just like me, flavorful and AWESOME!!! Every time I see her, which isn't always often, she shines a ray of sunlight and creativity onto my soul. Love Ya!!!
Academic Life: Once again, a few nominees. But I'm gonna have to say TWO names. Mrs. Copeland and Mr. Winebrenner. Both are really awesome and fun people, and I'm going to be pretty bummed out when I go to MHS in 2 years. Love Ya 2 2!!!

Blog Post #33: " Pretty Minds "
Respond to the following quote, what does it mean to you/to the story?
" Becoming pretty doesn't change the the way you look...it changes the way you think. "
How would you want to change mentally and physically if you were Pretty?
Kayli Says: Let's make a list, shall we?
#1: Not being greedy or anything, but let's face it, I'm already in Honor's Band, and I still want a little more " musical genius " in me, so I'm sorry but, Ciara Pink, you are going to have to give up 3rd chair, no offense.
#2: If being Pretty means I'm pretty, which it does, I would like like to be just a tad prettier than Pretty, if that makes sense and is even possible, just so I can snag that one guy finally.
#3: I would like to be a little bit more of a briber. This way I could get anything I want! (Via 1 and 2)
#4: I would be amazin' at math, though I would still H-A-T-E-I-T!!!
#5: My hair would be a little easier to manage. Yay!
6#: I would be a total trendsetter, oh wait, I think I already am!!! Lol!!!
#7: I would be better at a few sports...
#8: I'm running out of things to put here on this list
#9: I would be an amazin' child author. I'm actually writing one on my computer right now, kinda. I'm writing this right now, actually.
#10: Last but not least, number 10. Too bad I don't know what else to write. Type. Whatever. So I guess I'd have to say I wish Mrs. Copeland could be my language teacher...Forever!!!!! That and that I could win the lotto and have a vacation home in Hawaii.....Decisions, Decisions...Just Kiddin'...I think...Lol!!!!!

Blog Post #32: " The Secret "
What does the following quote tell you about the city and society in general?
" But you do know about genetics don't you? Sure I know all about genes. I knew two sisters, uglies, who looked almost the same. But parents and children? That's just weird. "
Kayli Says: It tells me that, even though a city can be so technological, so advanced, it can be the stupidest city ever. How is this so, you ask? Well, if a person, living in a city, doesn't know about human genetics by the time they are 16, and because the government is keeping it all a secret, don't you think there is a problem? Uh, yeah! That's like brainwash I tell you, Brainwash!!! These people are the closest human example to aliens ever!!! Well, except for Special Circumstances, of course, those people are creepy!!!

Kayli Says:

2) Personification: " Now that she'd spent a day cutting trees herself, the wooden table in the dining hall no longer horrified her. " (Page 243)
3) Simile: " Like the rest of her day, this meal tasted brutal and serious. " (Page 243)

Blog Post #30: " Suspicion "
Do you think Shay has a right to be jealous of Tally? Why or why not?
Kayli Says: You're kidding, right? Well, wait, it's kinda a trick question. On the " Yes Shay Can Be Jealous Side ", Tally did make the whole journey alone, and they said that no one had ever done that before. But on the " No Right to be Jealous Side ", Tally didn't even try make Shay jealous, and I'm pretty sure if she knew that she was, she would apologize, no doubt about it. I guess I'm just gonna have to say that Shay has absolutly no right at all to be jealous of Tally. No right. Nada.

Why would it have been easier for Tally to activate the pendant when she got to the Smoke? Explain.
Kayli Says: 1 word: attachment. Tally should have activated the pendant right when she got to the smoke so that she wouldn't have to go through the whole " well maybe I don't want to anymore " problem.

Blog Post #28: " David "
If David's parents were doctors, why do you think they ran away? Support your answer with textual evidence.
Kayli Says: Well for starters, when David's 'rents found out about the lesions, they obviously didn't want their knowledge taken away. In turn, they ran away so they could, maybe do something about these brain lesions.

Blog Post #26: " The Model "
What do you think about Shay's description of a model?
Kayli Says: I think she is pretty close to what a model really is, except for the part where everyone else is ugly. Well, uh, let me tell you something Shay, I don't care if you're just a name on paper, but I am NOT under ANY circumstances, UGLY!!!

Characterization of David:
Kayli Says: David is-
" An Ugly, but he had a nice smile. And his face held a kind of confidence that Tally had never seen in an Ugly before. Maybe he was a few years older than she was. Tally had never seen anyone mature naturally past age sixteen. She wondered how much of being ugly was just an awkward age. "

List the important events in this chapter in chronological order.
Kayli Says: 1. Tally gets rescued by the "rangers", 2. These ranger people teach her about why they're burning the flowers and about helicopters, 3. The rangers drop Tally off in almost the middle of nowhere, and finally, 4. Tally reaches a " bald head " place and waits.

2.) Personification: " The fire stretched in an unbroken wall across the opposite shore, a roaring wind pressing at its back and sending embers flying across to alight on the near side. "

Blog Post #22: " The Side You Despise "
What do you think the flying machine was? Who was in it? Make a prediction.
Kayli Says: I think it could have been a flying robot or something. I'm not 100% sure, but that's what I think it was. Now if it really was a flying robot, the people inside would be, most likely, evil, you know, like the people from Special Circumstances. Ya, bad times...BAAAAAADDDDD times. And so, accordingly, my prediction is as such; The people in that flying contraption are up to no good and are probably out to get Tally. Predict OUT.

Blog Post #19: " Leaving "
Why do you think that Tally ultimately decides to figure out where Shay is?
Kayli Says: Tally probably feels all left out, that everyone's younger than her and such, so she decides that she can make it all go away if she just does what Dr. Cable wants her to do. And plus, being an Ugly for the rest of your life is a pretty haunting idea.

A a simple, dumb-dumb-a-dumb beef JERKIE(Jerky) strip. Coincidentally, I Hate Beef Jerky!!! Go Figure!!! Respond to the following quote:
" Everywhere she went, eyes looked away. But it was the most visible she'd ever felt."
Kayli Says: Tally feels like she's in denial, after what happened with Dr. Cable and all, because everyone know's what's wrong, what happened. And until she spills about Shay, this is how the rest of her life is gonna be. Older than everyone else, no friends. Crying her eyes out day in and day out. Being invisible for being visible.
DEPRESSED!!!-<---3- MY HEART IS BROKEN!!!

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES!!! (CRASH, BOOM, LIGHTINING STRIKE!!!) And that's where she meet... Dr. Cable!!! (BUM, BUM, BUM!!!)(Geez, I like sound effects!) And Dr. Cable said that her friend Say was missing, and that if she didn't tell her where Shay was, she couldn't turn Pretty!!! (Le' Gasp!, Si' Gasp!, Aspa-G!)(That last one was in Pig-latin, BTW) Told you there would be ransom!!! And what would happen next,... ANYTHING!!! At this rate, there's definately gonna be some sharp corners ahead, for Tally AND Shay!!!

Blog Post #14 B: " Operation "
Summerize the chapter highlighting the important events in chronlogical order. Predict what you think will happen next.
Kayli Says: In this chapter, Operation, Tally waited outside of her dorm, alone. And she knows it too, because if Shay was still here, she would be waiting right there, next to her, for the hospital car to take them to the next step of their lives. Being Pretty. And when the hospital car came, Tally rode to the hospital in silence. When they finally arrived at the hospital, Tally checked in and waited. And waited. And waited. Until finally, someone came out and told her that there was a "problem" with her operation. That was freaky.
Kayli Also Says: What do I think will happen next? Well that's no mystery. IIIItttt'ssssss..... RANSOM!!!

Respond to the following quote, what does it mean to you?
" We have to look like everyone else, Tally, and act like everyone else. We've got a choice. We can grow up grow up any way we want. "
Kayli Says: This is Shay saying that they don't have to listen to "the man" and do what he says. You know, like how it's always good to break free and be your own person, to get away from the whole mess altogether, and just leave? Oh, and by the way, I highly recommend it. Lol!!! But sometimes, it's also good to not run away when things get bad, or when you don't like what's going on. Like turning Pretty, in Shay's case.

Blog Post #13: " Fight "
Two fights were presented in this chapter. Compare and contrast both of them. List their similarites and differences. Why did each fight take place? What was the outcome of each one? (No less than one paragraph)
Kayli Says: In this chapter, there were two fights, one fake, one real. The fake one was a prank to scare the new uglies, and it took place in the library where some of the new uglies were having a meeting. They were on a high balcony in the library, and were fighting over a book, resulting in Shay falling over the banister to, no, not splat, because she had a bungee jacket on!!! Yay!!! Anyway, all of the New Uglies were totally freaked out, and, boy, do I mean freaked out! Bad!!! Unfortunately, there was another fight in this chapter. And it wasn't fake. It was when Shay wanted to run away so she wouldn't have to turn Pretty. Tally tried to make her stay, but she wouldn't listen. They were fighting near a bridge, the one they took to get to the Rusty Ruins. Shay was going to run away and live with David and everyone else that didn't want to turn into Pretties. Shay had also given Tally a chance to come with her, but Tally still decided to stay. That's when Shay gave Tally a coded message if she ever wanted to join them. Then Shay sped off on her solar-powered hoverboard, and was gone.

What does the following quote from the chapter tell you about the city?
"That was one thing about being outside the city: It made all that nature stuff they taught in school seem a lot more useful. She remembered now how rainwater fell on the mountains and soaked into the ground..."
Kayli Says: Well this quote tells me that the city can, in a way, make things...fake. I mean, with all of this new and improved and totaly advanced technologies that they have, they lose sight of what's really real. Sure technolog is good, but if your too advanced, say you got marooned on an abandoned island with no power sources but simple things like fire and water, things of that nature. Most likely, you would die because you can't barely take care of yourself. Sure they do teach you a little about nature and such, but is that little amount enough to keep you living? Good luck, my compadres. Best wishes.

Blog Post #11: " The Rusty Ruins "
Write a one paragraph summary of the chapter. Tell the events in chronological order.
Kayli Says:
In the chapter, The Rusty Ruins, Shay took Tally to a place called the Rusty Ruins. On the way, the hoverboarded over a whitewater river, then walked a little ways, and then finally arrived at the ruins. Once there, Tally was astoinsed by how the the ruins looked in the moonlight. A few seconds later though, Shay showed Tally something called a "roller-coaster". Of course, Shay made Tally ride her hoverboard on the coaster and didn't tell her about the gap in the track. Then, and of course, Tally got mad at Shay for not telling her that there was a gap in the track. Typical. But still a great chapter.
Find two similes in this chapter and quote them, as well the page number.
Kayli Says:
1. " The Rusties had been stuck down in these streets like a horde of rats trapped in a burning maze." Page 61
2. " The Rusties didn't put their factories underground, and they all worked together like bees in a hive instead of at home." Page 62

Blog Post #10: " Rapids "
In this chapter Tally says, " I kind of like being fooled about somethings." Do you agree with Tally, or would you know rather know the reality behind everything? Why?
Kayli Says: Yes, because sometimes a lie is sooo much better than knowing the truth. If I was living a lie, an then someone, just out of the blue, told you something that changed your life forever, I would be torn apart, you know, if it was that big. Otherwise, i'd rather just uh, live my little lie.
Find information about the origin of white water rafting and post it here, along with the website URL
Kayli Says: "Back in 1958 when Jack Currey used to build rafts made from balsa wood to float Southern Utah's San Juan River, class IV and V whitewater was considered too risky to run recreationally. He decided that rubber army surplus rafts would much better handle the trials of whitewater as they did not get water-logged over time. However, after only a few trips it was readily apparent that the rubber rafts had their flaws as well. Because the rafts would fill with water in the bigger rapids, a continuous bailing effort was required, and on occasion the floor would tear on the jagged rocks.
One such occasion on a challenging section of the San Juan, a Currey guide accidentally tore the entire rubber floor out of his raft, leaving a suspended wooden floor hanging from the boat frame. The accident enabled the raft to self-bail itself through the entire whitewater expedition, giving the passengers a dry, safe, and comfortable ride.
Thus, river rafting history was made with the introduction of the first self-bailing rowing raft that has since revolutionized the river rafting industry.
From the experience on the San Juan River with balsa wood rafts, the Currey's have built the largest and the safest river running company in the world. Over the past 30 years, Steve Currey and his expedition team have taken over 1/4 million satisfied guests on their national and international river expeditions.
Tragically, Steve Currey passed away during the summer of 2006 due to brain cancer. His son Neal, following three deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan as an Army Ranger, has taken the reigns and will continue the family adventure travel legacy beginning with trips in Chilean Patagonia on the Futaleufu and Figueroa Rivers starting December 15th of 2008."

Blog Post #9: " Pretty Boring "
Describe the Rusty Ruins. What are they? What happened during this time period?
Kayli Says: The Rusty Ruins is pretty much... us. The people that lived back then in the book, yeah, that's us, the old people. We're pretty much their "Stone Age", so that means that I don't have to explain what happened back then. I Hope... because that would mean that you don't know what's going on in your life... you know, right now? Because a, that would suck... a lot. Creepy.
Define peer pressure. Think of a time when it happened to you or someone you know and explain the situition in a paragraph.
Kayli Says: Well that's not easy to think of, but it's not hard, either. Peer pressure is when your peers pressure you into doing something that you don't think is right or that you don't want to do. I guess I have been a victim of peer pressure, just like everyone else. Now girls, we all know that our friends are totally gonna try and get us to do something stupid. Which brings me to the conclusion that, no, I WILL NOT ASK HIM OUT!!! END OF STORY!!!

Blog Post #8: " Facing the Future "
Reflect on the following quotes from the chapter, what does each mean to you?
1. "Making ourselves fell ugly is not fun."..."This whole game is designed to make us hate ourselves."
Kayli Says: This quote is pretty much Shay saying that she might not want to turn pretty, but to just live in the moment, because she won't be herself, an Ugly, much longer.
2. "Everyone judged everyone else based on their appearance. People who were taller got better jobs...people killed one another over stuff like having different skin color." (Referring to when everyone was Ugly)
Kayli Says: Shay saying that being Pretty isn't all and everything, and that, just because you're different, doesn't mean that you're Ugly.
3. " It's the only way to make people equal." (Becoming Pretty)
Kayli Says: Tally, (Referring to the last quote made by Shay), thinks that the things that happened back then, like people killing people over skin color, were caused by the fact that everyone was different, and when people turn Pretty nowadays, everyone looks a little bit more alike so, in turn, there isn't as much fighting.

Think of another book, movie, or comic (exc) in which people use hover boards. How are they used? If possible, post a video of this.
Kayli Says:
http://nicktoons.nick.com/videos/clip/d-stabilized-clip.html
Kayli Says: Copy the URL above and go to this website to watch the clip. It was being mean and wouldn't let me put it here. Sorry for the stupid comercials, but please enjoy!
Kayli Says: In the TV show "Danny Phantom", Valerie uses a hoverboard as one of her weapons to catch Danny Phenton, AKA Danny Phantom, AKA Ghost Boy.
Why do you think that the Pretties don't come back to Uglyville to visit? Describe their physical and mental transformation into New Pretties.
Kayli Says: Well Obviously, they don't care to for one, and two, they're all so wrapped up in what they're doing in New Pretty Town to even look up at they're old friends in Uglyville. They might even be made fun of for associating with "Non-Pretties". You could blame them, but you never know what the doctors could have done to them... so don't hate.

Blog Post #6: " Shay "
Write a one paragraph summary of the chapter.
Kayli Says: In the chapter "Shay", Tally meets a girl named Shay in a pleasure garden while trying to escape the police back at Garbo Mansion in New Pretty Town. Suprisingly, they have the same birthday, and become pretty great friends.
What have you learned about Shay? I she like Tally? Make a prediction about what will happen between Tally and Shay.
Kayli Says: Shay is very adventurous, just like Tally. In fact, she's even more adventurous then her. At first she and her "adventurousity" overwhelmed Tally, and it still does. And though they are alike in so many ways, they are different in many ways also. Like the big fact that Shay doesn't want to become a Pretty, and lives in and for the moment. While Tally, on the other hand, could daydream about becoming a Pretty all day long.
Kayli Also Says: I think that Tally and Shay are going to be Best Friends and always have each other's backs.

Blog Post #5: " Best Friends Forever "
Why do you think New Pretty Town advocates bungee jumping?
Kayli Says: They probably allow, or advocate if you must, bungee jumping because it makes you feel like you can do anything that you want to do like you can fly or glide gracefully through the air, or just go all out into a free-fall. Your choice. Not only that, but if they're too busy partying, if someone's hiding something, a secret perhaps... THE WORLD MAY NEVER KNOW...
Kayli Also Says: "Bungee Jumping was originally an ancient ritual or right of passage for the "vine jumpers" of Pentecost Island in the Pacific Ocean Vanuatu group. Every year, the men of the island's tribe build large wooden towers, over 80 feet high. They then carefully select vines from the jungle which they then tie to their ankles before jumping off the top of the towers.
Modern Bungee jumping began with a 4 man team from the Oxford University Dangerous Sports Club jumping off the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol, England, on April 1, 1979 (April Fools Day) dressed in their customary top hat and tails. The four neatly dressed adventurers (as the rules of their club expected) were immediately arrested.
During the late 1980's A.J. Hackett opened up the 1st commercial jump site in New Zealand and to publicize his site, per-formed an astonishing bungee jump from the Eiffel Tower!
Bungee Jumping flourished in France and New Zealand during 1980s and was introduced to the United States by John and Peter Kockelman from California in late 1980s. In 1990s facilities opened up all over the United States with cranes, towers, and hot-air balloons being used as jumping platforms.
1000's have now experienced the “ultimate adrenaline rush” that is Bungee Jumping.
Today, New Zealand probably has more Bungee Jumping sites than anywhere else. South Africa however, has the highest bungee jump in the world, listed at 216 meters!
While jumping off a steep platform (or building or bridge or hot air balloon...) and bouncing up and down like a human yo-yo appeals to many adventurers, a number of things can still go wrong if bungee jumpers don’t use common sense. Accidents involving broken ankles, dislocated shoulders, severe rope burns and the like occur often. In the constant pursuit for bigger thrills and adrenaline rushes, some jumpers get carried away with new ways to jump and forget to account for gravity or weight distribution. Some of them pay the ultimate price."

Characterization: Tally
Kayli Says: Wide nose, thin lips, a too high forehead, a tangled mass of frizzy hair
Characterization: Peris
Kayli Says: A Pretty that
How do you feel about the friendship of Tally and Peris? Are they true best friends? Why or why not?
Kayli Says: I think that the friendship of Tally and Peris is true, except for the fact that they have barely talked since Peris has turned Pretty. if he would have written more than once in a while, and since there's only been one "while", their friendship is starting to fade. It's kind of hard to tell if they're still best friends. I hope they are, because if they aren't, ... well it's too soon to tell.

Find and quote ONE oxymoron from the chapter or ONE example of irony. (Quote it directly)
Kayli Says: " ...It took only seconds to find the fishing line tied to its usual rock" Fishing lines aren't supposed to catch rocks, i'm pretty sure.
Why do you think that Tally chose to wear a mask to the party that was deemed "White Tie"?
Kayli Says: Tally probably wore the mask so no one would realize that she was an ugly. If anyone found out, there would be monsterous consequences for her comming full speed ahead.
Find information about the history of masks and post it. How does this relate to Tally"s decision?
Kayli Says: "The history of masks is a fascinating look at human frailty and imagination. Humans have used masks for different reasons throughout time, from blending into scenery to standing out from other people. The main concept behind most masks, with the possible exception of funerary masks, is to hide a person’s identity. Masks have been used for religious purposes, for artistic purposes and just for fun purposes.
History of Masks
Masks have been used for thousands and thousands of years in cultures around the world. Early masks were probably made from local materials. Harder-to-find or more precious materials would probably have been used to embellish more important masks in ancient times, as they are now.
Over the centuries, masks became associated with religion. For example, ancient Egyptians considered mummy masks to be an important part of the transition to afterlife. Today, masks made by the Iroquois people are so precious to their beliefs that the Iroquois leadership is requesting the return of face masks from museums and private collections. Traditional Iroquois want to properly care for these masks according to their ancient traditions.
Sometimes, a culture starts to use masks for a specific reason only to have that reason change over time. For example, masks were initially used during carnival to hide people’s identities. Wearing masks allowed people to cross class lines and behave in inappropriate ways without fear of shame. As societies’ morals and cultures have changed, wearing masks has become less necessary for concealing sexual indiscretions. Today, they are just another part of carnival’s atmosphere. This is not to say some naughty things no longer occur behind masks.
Masks have long been featured in entertainment. Masks have been an important part of dances around the world. They have been an essential part of theatre in countries such as China, Japan and Korea for centuries. Mardi Gras masks have been a part of American culture since the 17th century. Masks have also been indispensible in literature, plays, movies and television. You wouldn’t have “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Zorro,” or “the Lone Ranger” without masks.
Can you imagine?"

AWESOMELY AMAZING USC TROJANS! MmmHmm! I said it!

UGLY!
How do you define beauty? What would the world be like if everyone was "beautiful"?
Kayli Says: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder; it can only be described in opinion. That being said, my opinion would be that beauty is flawless and pale. Maybe a bright, fun use of color, or a cold, dark, moon-kissed glow; it's hard to describe. Never-the- less it is also VERY OVERRATED. OK, sure it's one thing to care enough about how good you look as opposed to everyone, but an obsession? The whole "Ten-Pounds-of-Makeup" Routine? And the sad thing is, some people actually think that makes then look better. Boy, are they in for a Shocker..... Kayli Also Says: If everyone in the world was beautiful, no one would be. So technically, if you were beautiful, you would be considered ugly, and if you were ugly, you would be considered beautiful, so there's no point in being beautiful at all!!! Reverse Psychology!!! LOL!!!
Post a picture of something you find beautiful, and something you find ugly and explain the reasoning behind these choices in a paragraph.
